At the Soul Center we believe

that people are happiest when we live with awe and gratitude • that everyone is worthy of love and care from themselves, each other and from G-d • that we all need ways to rejuvenate our souls • that learning and exploring within affirming and supportive communities nourish us • that beautiful, creative, meaningful experiences inspire us • that our lives are busy, our time is valuable and that details matter • that ancient Jewish wisdom, Torah and rituals can anchor us, guide us and help us navigate our complicated world with clarity and grace • that being Jewish is a gift.

Write Yourself Forward. Manifesting Your Best Year.

Thursdays, September 3rd and 17th

What if this High Holy Day season, instead of just looking back – you wrote yourself forward?

As we anticipate the arrival of a new year, our tradition gifts us Elul – the Jewish month preceding the High Holy Days. This month is an invitation to return; to our truest selves, to our most important relationships, to the life we actually want to live. But returning requires a direction. And that’s where your story comes in!

Co – facilitated by Rabbi Saroken and Ora.

Stir Your Soul Selichot

Saturday, September 5th

The High Holy Days don’t just arrive — they call to you first. And Selichot is that call.

Selichot is the moment we wake up our souls and say: a new year is coming, and I want to be ready for it. Traditionally observed at midnight on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah, we will be doing it in Soul Center style: outdoors, in the cool night air. Meet us at 10:30pm for hot cocoa, cozy treats, and song, prayer, and honest reflection with Rabbi Saroken and the Shir Joy band.

The season starts here!

Word of Your Year

Thursday, September 10th

You know that feeling at the start of a new year — the sense of possibility, the quiet hope that this year could be different? What if instead of a resolution, you chose a single word to carry you through?

Word of Your Year is a creative, reflective evening built around one powerful question: What word do I want to define my year? We’ll explore how language shapes the way we see ourselves and the lives we live, choose the word we most want to embody in 5787, and then make it something tangible — weaving it into a friendship bracelet to wear as a daily reminder of the intention we’ve set.

It’s the perfect way to step into the High Holy Day season — a little soul-searching, a little creativity, and a lot of good company.
A word. A vision. A year worth creating.

Letting Go... Twice Over

Monday, September 14th

Some things aren’t meant to come with you into the new year. The grudges, the regrets, the moments you wish you could do over. This is your chance to actually let them go.

In the sacred days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we’ll head out onto the water for Tashlich — the ancient ritual of casting away what we’re ready to release. We’ll write our let-it-go lists and head out onto the water to release all that we’re ready to leave behind. Then, we’ll close with mikvah immersion — because when we make space, we make room to welcome in a new way of being. Julie Hettleman and Liz Minkin-Friedman and our community will guide and hold the experience — so all you have to do is show up, breathe, and let go.

Who We Are

Under the spiritual guidance of Rabbi Dana Saroken, we are thousands of Baltimore-area seekers. We each identify with Judaism in a distinct and personal way, yet we share a common goal: To access and activate the wisdom of our Jewish heritage. Our “door” is open to everyone.
